I’ve been getting excited about Cannes Film Festival. It’s still a couple of months off but we put my film ‘Mr. Invisible’ in for consideration for the Official Selection. Fingers crossed. I’m also putting something in to the Short Film Corner and will be talking up my various feature film ideas to anyone who’ll listen.
But Cannes is a great experience, whether you’re there with a film or not. It was announced this week that ‘The Great Gatsby’ is going to open the festival. I’m intrigued/scared to see what Baz Luhrmann’s makes of one of my favourite novels. Previous adaptations of the book have been disappointing, bogged down by the surface materialism and excess that Fitzgerald’s book, for me, sets out to criticise. Luhrmann is the man who brought us ‘Moulin Rouge’ though so I’m sure he’ll keep it all very low key!
On a Gatsby tip I found this earlier, a Great Gatsby NES game. I couldn’t get past Level 3. Wave goodbye to the next hour and get playing. I think more books should be turned into video games.
This week I thought I’d share with you a little 3 minute silent film I made at the 2010 festival, ‘Food For Thought’. We had a day to film it on a Flip camera. I like to think of it as a major influence on ‘The Artist’. Enjoy
